Mockup For A Racinggame

http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php?app=blog&blogid=48&showentry=72

Made this mockup some days before christmas.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/448984/mockup.jpg
It was done with Blender and Photoshop, some of the textures was taken from cgtextures.com. But most of them was made by me.
It is a simple and fast mockup, the polycount is similar to games like Race on. Maybe not Pandora specs. But its only a mockup, not a game yet, not in a game engine.

GLSL, default Blender shaders, simple skybox, some alpha clouds, a taxtureblend on the ground(texture to control the blend between the materials), materials like the grass and the gravel is on seperate meshes to have the ability to use material specific fetures like sound/particles/speed damping etc.
Some of the materials like the tarmac, guardrail, curb is using specmaps, some of them colored some B&W only. Normalmaps for most materials. All the groundtextures are tileable.
The tarmac material have a smaler detailmap for the normalmap, not sure it would be needed in a racing game, its almost impossible to see when you are driving. But why not invent a new feture, crash-LOD, when you are under a speed of say 10 km/h or standing still after a crash, you see LODs like alphagrass, detailmaps and other things, when you are driving faster, they disappear like a distance LOD.
Think a programmer knows more about that then I do.
I do think it is possible to make a GLSLes game to look even better then the screengrab. If you put a little hard work behind it http://www.gp32x.com/board/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif. And I also think you can do a lot by having a modular design on the maps.
Will be fun to see how good Irrlicht is going to be on the Pandora. One of the engines that may take handheld gaming to a new level, who knows http://www.gp32x.com/board/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif
Maybe I start to work on some high poly assets to it after New Year. Would love to make a racing game on my spare time, even if it only makes it to an alpha or benchmark version.
Somehow we need to know how to optimize 3D for Pandora.
Take a look at the racing games on the PSP and think about the hardware, then compare it to the Pandora.

Old Game Mockup, 2d Side Scrolling Game

Found an old mockup for a possible pandora game on one of the hard drives, from July 2008. Yes thats old
Remember I did a lot of documentation for this and a some sprites where done. Not much info on the screens, more a clean graphic style, designed to be easy to look at. and heavy use of intense colors and contrast.
Nothing new in the concept really, had some idées how to use the touchscreen but not anything new I think.
Think one idé was something semi 3D like its side scrolling on moment and then a third person/first person view next second but not allowing a full stearing of the plane.
Maybe a gunner position to save the plane when its under attack. Think you get it
For admins! fix the date feature pls, can't set it to 2010! this is posted 9 january 2010, not 2009
