Ok as expected, this beta do not work very well. I'll try to post a new one soon.
I've also find that selector do not help very much here. I usually start gngeo from a telnet session, and it work quite well, but from selector, it's as the 940 is underclocked, and the emulation is slower.. I'll try rage2x (it's better anyway smile.gif )

EDIT:
First, I forgot to thanks Notaz for all his work on PicoDrive. I couldn't do it without his source.

New beta here: http://m.peponas.fre...o0.7a-beta4.zip
This one should (I hope) fix major bug. There is still some bug like some game with no sound at all (wind jamer, street hoops for example) and sometime when there is lot of frameskip (for game that need a gfx dump, when the sd card is accessed), the sound can skip a lot.

Now, the bad news. I've just discovered that the speed sucks unless ram timing tunning are enabled. I really hope that everybody can use this hack because it really improve the emulation.
To enable it, just put this in your conf/gngeorc file:
CODE

ramhack true

After some test, it work well in selector and rage2x.

PS: Yod4Z, can you update your first post?

Excellent - I've just tried this version and it's a great improvement.

Like you said there are still some games with no sound - Stakes Winner is another of these - but other games work really well!

Waku Waku and Art of Fighting 3 are really nice and play so much nice at this high FPS!

I've now been playing at 200Mhz, AOF3 is from 25FPs-60FPS. It seems to depend on which scene I am on, some scenes are a more steady 50-60FPS, whilst others are more like 20-40FPS.

Thanks for your hard work, it's a great release!

I didn't tried AOF3, but IIRC it use a lot of scaling, that's why I think the fps is not steady.
For a game like Garou, when the SD card is not accessed, I got 60fps @200Mhz @22050Hz.

From what I know, the DMA is not working on the gp2x, so it can explain the slowdown we got with games that need a gfx dump.
I would like to ask the specialist here, is it a permanent issue? or a project like open2x can overcome it?
Because, right now, it's for me the last performance issue with gngeo.

As I understand it, the DMA doesn't work for SD and is a hardware problem (a feature that mysteriously disappeared in later manuals for the chip).

I made the change but can't change the topic title, if some forum operator can change it to "gngeo beta"

very very good speed smile.gif
I've played to Androdunos @150MHz sound 22050Hz always @60fps !
But no music (beta powered smile.gif )

Here my beta contribution:
http://jycet.perso.c...rage2x_beta.gpe
new options supported exept for X & Y tv offset (I dont know the value and the cmd line)

know bugs (yes beta powered too)
-crappy vsync in tv mode
-X & Y offset tv doesnt work (yet)
-LCD configuration killed when you go back rage2x and you have used --tvout option
-exit credit not displayed in TV mode
... perhaps more options doesnt work because i've changed all options code part ....

To be continued ...

EDIT: ahhh and no translation for new options (yet)

Yes you are right.

Metal Slug 1 plays at 60FPS @ 200Mhz with 22050hz sound. Great stuff!
However, the graphics for the sprites seem corrupt? Or is this just my particular ROM?

in version 0.7 we need CPU at 280MHz with sound at 22050 to have 60fps and at 200MHz without sound to have 60fps, now we have the same speed with beta version but with sound on biggrin.gif.

Must be the roms, some old mslug dump have that issue. I can confirm it work perfectly here smile.gif (but @22050Hz, when there is lot of action, the fps drop a little).

Should normal "non Telnet" users like me wait for a more polished Beta or is anything working without risk? How compatible is this new GnGeo with the last Rage2X Version?
And what is better for the GP2X Batteries here: One Processor at 266MHz or booth Processors at 200 Mhz?

EDIT; oh and in the older 0.7 Version (since MMU Hack) of GNGeo there were graphical glitches when using Raster effects. Is or will this be fixed? For Example in Neo Turf Masters there are glitches in the screen centre and in the screen outside "frame" NeoTurf Masters Graphic normaly benefits extremely from raster effects so it would be cool if we can use them without these glitches. smile.gif

It's a beta, and some function does not work correctly (save state for ex). You can try it just for the fun wink.gif
As for batteries life, IIRC, some people done test with PicoDrive, and using 2 core is better than one overclocked core.
An other feature that don't work right now is per game config for cpu speed. So if you use Rage2x, don't set the cpu speed option for just a game but globally.

I see that yesterday actually, I'll look at it.

Even if the power requirements were the same or close for 2 cores at 200 MHz or one at 266MHz it is still better as everyone can run at 200 MHz, not everyone can overclock to 266Mhz or more.

So is this version stable enough to replace the older single core version? I read that sound doesn't work and there are graphics glitches for some stuff which would mean I would keep the old version. What is the consensus here before I upgrade, new or old is better?

Some games, you'll notice a boost. Some you'll notice bugs. Just keep both on your card.

The next stable version will be far superior for sure to last (0.7) stable one but at the moment those two betas are buggy (normal thing).

Keep both, so you can compare.

I am agree with Shadowsithe.

I don't quite understand... I an running the latest beta with the rage2x beta and it doesn't load any roms, it just freezes right after i choose to load an image. Might be my overclock... i will try again.

EDIT: nope not my OC... anybody having an idea what the hell is causing this? I will try to reset my gngeo config file and get it all configured through rage2x only...
