yea true but there was talk of an expansion slot...and my brain is just going why in the world do you need that.

Its already at its peak...need to just keep as it was intended.

Sounds like a terrible waste of resources to develop a second model. Craig & Co are not Nokia.

Maybe, maybe.. it might be interesting to probe the market for that tho, and by that I mean, ask people if they want it or if they couldn't care less. I mean we need a poll, I guess.

Companies often do... they plan a certain feature and make it optional. A version could include it or not. If it isn't included then the planned space is kept empty. Simple as that. A robot could or could not solder the specific parts onto the pcb.

But the planning is important.

If its not planned already into then it probably will never see the light as retroaspectively fitting stuff...

I just wanted to show some OpenGL demos running on my imx31 handheld. They look amazing and the OMAP3 is a much stronger platform. We are going to have some real fun with the craiginator when it is released! smile.gif smile.gif

I vote "Couldn't care less". Heck, these days digital cameras are falling out of cereal boxes - I don't need any more. biggrin.gif

I'd buy one of those, never mind the Craiginator!

Could you please share some history about this machine? The movies look great, and I really like the button layout.

I doubt that Craig will get a manufaturing robot wink.gif

Did someone say it'd need zoom? You don't need no stinking optical zoom when you've got a 12 MP sensor. That's why cameras in phones are cheap, and that's precisely what the hell I'm talking about building in, a camera phone-like camera.

QUOTE(PokeParadox @ Oct 24 2007, 02:22 AM) View Post

I'm all for an expansion slot (or expandability by USB devices), but I kinda agree that not so many devices should be built-in... it will just push the price up, or means sacrifices will have to be made elsewhere.

Duh, that's why I suggested to make two models, one with, one without.

QUOTE(sam fisher @ Oct 24 2007, 02:51 AM) View Post

Camera by USB?

No, aduh, ruins the point of using the SoC's built-in stuff, plus have a camera not built-in sucks. Plus you won't get the level of performance/possibilities with that.

Hey that's why I made the suggestion! smile.gif

Yeah, I don't doubt he'll assemble everything by hand wink.gif

I've gotta ask, does this machine's design have anything to do with the Craiginator's design even remotely? And secondly, how the hell did you obtain a 640x480 LCD?

Hey, interesting question, but do you think we should try to get .theprodukkt to port their Texture Generation Library to the Craiginator? These people are the ones who created .kkrieger, in case you didn't know. Their Texture Generation Library would allow for very small filesize games with good graphics. I don't know if they would, but it would be worth a shot.

Here's the site: http://www.theprodukkt.com

The site has downloads and screenshots for .kkrieger if you'd like to see what it is. I'd also suggest watching the .debris demo, and their mobile demo that's on the mobile section of the site.

I don't know what the frame rates are yet. I don't know if the OpenGL module has some sort of fps output or if I would have to figure it out and add it to the demo code. I just play with this system for fun as I am focusing on the Craiginator now. I can say that it is incredibly smooth and looks like 30fps for sure but I am guessing. It never chugs even when accessing an MP3 from the SD card at the same time.

My system isn't related to Craig's endeavors at this point. If the OMAP deal didn't happen then I think it would have been considered. I started this design last summer. Doesn't anyone remember me saying I was going to make my own GP2X killer last July? sad.gif

I bought a couple of these 480x640 displays last summer. I forget the company name and at that time it wasn't hard to buy them by the 1000's but they are expensive!!! Much more than the 800x480 displays. It is transflective too but I haven't really tried it in the sunlight yet.

I don't think I will be trying any emulators on it. The kernel is still a bit flaky in that it doesn't always mount the root file system properly but I use redboot to load it and there may be some inconsistencies. I also, want to focus all my attention on the new system so we can get it out sooner.

I think I wanted to show off these videos to generate more excitement for what is to come! smile.gif Yes, yes, 3D isn't everything, but look what we can do with a patched kernel on an ARM11 system only capable of ES 1.1 and no real optimization wink.gif

Of course i remember. At the time I thought the i.mx31 was the be all and end all and had you marketed a console based on it I would of pounced on it instantly. Course now I want the OMAP biggrin.gif

That's tantamount to confirmation of the speculation we've been engaged in for the last month or two! Yay!
