It's an old GP2X scenario.

Someone finds faults in a system that maybe other people see or maybe it only applies to themselves.

After informing everyone about these faults, they would go on and on and on about it in every thread. Say for example this type of person hated the control stick in the GP2X F100. If someone was to release a game and everyone loved it and congratulated the author, this person would say, it sucks because the stick makes to impossible to play the game correctly.

The reason why they do this is because they so desperatly want the next revision to fix these problems, that they feel they should keep bringing the issues up. And because this forum is unique in the way that people can feedback into the design process, they feel that they can make a difference.

But in the end, most people are excited about these gadgets. I was and am still excited about the GP2X. I know there were flaws that have been fixed after each revision. But I'm confident that Craigix, ED, MW and Co. are collecting feedback. I can see how feedback from the thread has made it into device via (MW) minus the tonne of crazies produced daily there.

2. it is not called the panda

But from those pics of the white unit (which I like better than the black one btw), with the black keyboard and dpad/buttons... make it look the same colours as a real Panda... so why not a bit aof fun/pun on the name. And Panda can be gotten if your 'shorten' the name Pandora.

Oddly enough, i've seen a few peeps aside from me calling it 'The Panda.'

I always liked the name 'Project Bumblebee' myself.

I was wondering the exact same thing as Mister B here..... the homepage doesn't strike me as professional at all, and there is no info beyond the deadline promised... when someone points this out the message is changed to act like the deadline never existed, self imposed or not.... then I come on here to find one of the members of the 'Pandora Team' is engaging in bickering and namecalling against random people just because they don't want to buy his product. I'm hoping the best for this product as it has a lot of potential but the handling of this whole endeavor from a marketing standpoint is disconcerting at best. The behavior on this forum is exceedingly immature and childish to say the least and to see a team who are trying to put out a serious product for sale engage in it doesn't paint a bright future for this device. M. Weston's comments have been professional and unbiased at least and it seems like he's the individual in charge of the machine's physical design, the most important aspect, so I hope it's only the merchants like craigix who are going to resort to such ridiculous behavior.... if it means less sales for them well, then they'll know what is acceptable and what is not, I'll find a seller who knows to separate personal issues from business. But maybe I am being overly idealistic, a handheld gaming device designed from input on an internet forum (one of the most immature entities you can find online), with barely any professional front, is going to be plagued by senseless drama from day one to the grave.

Reading the thread would be a great start uh, 'pandora'.

I don't know, maybe you missed the part where one of the biggest proprietors of this project called some random guy out because he didn't want to buy the pandora and told him he was trolling for it... Or that he apparently the former forum antichrist or something equivalent. I haven't actually seen any useful information from that guy (craigix) in ages actually.... just conjecture and comments about software he hopes to run on it and also something about stealing OS software from the EEE PC. not confidence inspiring is all I'm saying.

Oh and the bit about 'bad design' is that it's very tacky and looks thrown together.. even to the point of, instead of using even the most rudimentary tables or frames or CSS it's got things spaced out by using a blank image file of the appropriate width..... that's just awful. But it's beside the point, I already said what I needed to.

Hmmm, he doesn't want to buy a Pandora. Why the hell is he even posting in the Pandora forums then? Sounds like trolling to me. For example, I have absolutely no plans to buy an obese goat, therefore I don't go randomly posting my suggestions in forums that are all about obese goats. Make sense?

As for the website being crappy, I think it would be pretty stupid to spend a bunch of time/money on a fancy looking website when the "team" isn't even ready to release any new information. I am sure the site will become much more functional when it actually has a reason to function.

BACK ON TOPIC

the info is hiding...

You should consider the possibility that the reason there is no new info on the site is because there isn't any new info.

I worked in the laptop manufacturing business for a couple years, and getting info out of the factories in Taiwan was like pulling teeth. Finding out if and when hardware problems would be resolved was always difficult, and requesting new features was pointless because they made whatever they wanted to anyway.

Granted, these were some of the larger laptop OEMs, and we were very small compared to some of their other customers (Dell, for example). Still, it is well within reason to think that there simply isn't any new, 100% solid info to release right now. And judging by the reactions to the info released so far, they would want it to be 100% solid before saying anything. Can you imagine a post stating "Good news, it will probably have X Feature!" Then a month later, after the engineers work things out, it turns out feature X isn't doable. Heads would explode from rage over being "lied to".

Please consider the whole situation before you start demanding things.

All of this isn't really directed at thumbs, but there are definitely some people here with an undeserved sense of entitlement. I'm sure the development team isn't hiding info out of spite. How about we just settle down, stop going out of our way to pick fights, and wait like rational people.

openpandora.ca has some info at the bottom of the page that was not there before. I know it's been mentioned elsewhere, but atleast it is new news. 550MHz CPU, 128DDR 333MHz and 256MB NAND.

I'm sure FAQs, and blogs will come along soon. It'll be really good in no time, once we all et to see what can be done with the dev boards. That'll be entertaining enough for me until April. smile.gif
