hey all,
I've just recently started to look into the Didj, I first spotted it at Target, I must say, for 320x240 resolution, the screen isn't really that bad. I too was looking into hacking a basic linux OS into it to allow the use for emulation. I scanned around the web and noticed, despite it being on the market for quite some time, there is little support on it despite it being open source. I'd REALLY love to see a complete linux GUI in it for loading emulators on to. I did, however, see this website for step by step instructions on loading a linux OS onto the didj.

here:
http://www.elinux.or...o_Extract_Files

The website was created by a user in this forum, so I thank him for making the didj forum very much!
Has anyone else tried this kernel on the didj? I'm looking into getting one because of its wide availability and 3D openGL processing as well as its fast ARM processor.

Thanks!

Uhh dude, there is no need to port Linux to the Didj. It has bee been found out since then it run's linux. And uses a GUI, which I like how it works. (I had a chance to give the Didj a test run at my local Walmart)

Well well, look like one of the guys who worked on and helped put linux on the didj has come out of the wood work. Look like didj homebrew is going to get a boost soon: http://andrey.thedot...dj-hacking.html

I'm thinking homebrew should be pretty easy - it's designed to be hooked up to a computer and updated.

Cannot find fresh info anymore...

Seems it hasn''t clicked with this (interesting) little device...such a shame, given the limitations (and the delays) of the Wiz...

Waiting for a second batch Pandora now.

Just received my Didj today, hoping there is a way to develop for it. $45 US on amazon. Anyone gotten anywhere with the source or filesystem or serial port?

To those who have a Didj and has experience in programing games. Can you see if you can get a homebrew app running on the Didj?

I bought a Didj over the weekend at Toys R Us for $30. I just couldn't resist at that price. :) I'm having a heck of a time setting up the install CD in Ubuntu though; having issues with both Wine and Virtualbox (USB version).

I found out a lot of info in this thread:
http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php?/topic/49903-interesting-discovery-chip-id/
Thanks to Claude for your work on the Didj!

It's disappointing that Wiz software is not binary compatible though. Maybe the Wiz's Linux kernel could be ported to the Didj so developers only have to account for lack of a frame buffer and other minor hardware differences. The reason I think this direction is worth pursuing is that maybe the Didj could piggyback on top of the already well-established Wiz scene. The Didj scene (if you can call it that) is quite small at the moment; maybe 3-5 at the most. This would bolster Didj development and lead to more people making Didj software. Sorry if my post sounds a bit naive, I'm a programming student w/ minor experience. Anyone think this would be feasible?
