I mean, really, we already have 4 score leaders:

john4p 100 100
Jack Attack 500 100 100
Mithander 100 100
MonkeyChops 100 100

Wheres the trash talk? :)
Hows Parodius going? contra?

I'm hoping to have a few runs over the weekend myself, been too tied up the last little while with firmware and RL-explosions :P

Managed a first try of Parodius for 61,200 if that helps break the silence. These explosions though, anything Homeland security need be fearing? :)

Contra is solid, lasted about 40 secs lol Last played the original as Gryzor on the CPC464 and used to sink loads of time into it but this is like lightning from the outset. Got very rusty from modern cutscene, narrative games. Looks like it has loads of great bosses and such though so hoping to get a chance to get to grips with it, both in fact.

I don't expect to be anywhere near the top of the score board. I'm just not very good at most games. I tried Contra and lasted a few seconds. After a few tries I had a best score of 810!
So I went back to Parodius. But I keep getting crushed to death by the giant dancer. I like the game though. I'll keep practicing.

Yes! that dancing hoe, how do you even kill her?! I guess you have to just dodge her till she's had her fun and goes?
What character are you using? I like the octopus dude and his ripples of death.

Oh and I'd like to point out that Jack attack 500 is my buddy that I talked into joining, that makes Ohio the ROT Champion of the world!! :P

I have Kohler training next week so I'll be at a hotel by myself for 4 days with plenty of time for Parodius action, Watch Out!

I like the octopus too. :)
I don't think the dancing girl can be killed. I managed to get past a couple of time. I've not mastered the timing and positioning to avoid her deadly high heels consistently. I'm playing on a Dingoo with its tiny d-pad.

I think I'm going to say no to drugs and stay away from the LSD simulator, going for Contra instead. I don't have a great deal of time to play and I get killed a lot quicker on that :D

It's a really fun game (lot of explosions - I'm easily pleased), but maybe not such a good choice for a high score challenge seeing as you can't see the score until you die?

I'm consistently beating the first boss now but getting killed pretty quickly on the second level, whichever way I go. I should be able to fit in a few games tonight so I'll post a score later.

Yeah, I noticed that but it could be worse - there are plenty of older games that only show you your score while you're still playing! I guess it makes working out the best high-score strategy pretty challenging though.

On Parodius, it's the Vic Viper for me for the moment, for old times' sake, but they've all got there own specialisms. Vic Viper's got either the powerful laser (for when you don't need the double) and the ground-running missiles. Octopus has the two way missiles (although they don't ground-run) and the ring cannon thing. Twinbee's my current back-up with its tail gun and fun rocket punch. And Pentarou's a sort of best-of mix of the others, with ground running potons and the spread gun.

For those of you playing Parodius, take a look at this:

It's the original MSX game. Simply bonkers! It looks like a standard 8-bit home computer game complete with monochrome sprites and jerky scrolling, yet it's got almost all the features of the arcade/pc-engine game - including massive bosses and screenfuls of chaos (albeit flickery)! It's the freakiest thing I've ever seen on a computer - it looks like those terrible unplayable 8-bit arcade ports you used to get back in the 80s, but this is in fact the original game - appearing four years before the game it appears to ape.

It's the first but I like the pc engine version better. Its more like gradius 3, which was a game I played the shit out of back in the day. No matter how you slice it though, parodius is cracked out but great fun :D

Yeah, it looks to me like Parodius Da was the game they were trying to make in the first place, but the MSX couldn't quite handle it. I think it's a great game too, probably my favourite in the Gradius series - although I should really go back and play Gradius V again before I make that statement :D

I found a few minutes yesterday to start playing both Contra and Parodius. I also found yesterday that I suck! I'm going to try a few more times on Parodius (as I seem better at that one) before submitting a score.

This league was a really good idea.
