To configure button mapping, you have to edit the file named gngeorc in gngeo_pepone/conf and add the following line:

p1control A=K281,B=K279,C=K278,D=K280,START=K308,COIN=K306,UP=K273,DOWN=K274,LEFT=K276,RIGHT=K275,MENU=K32

then, you have to suffle the A,B,C,D values as your convenience ;)

you can also do it as a per game basis by putting this line in a file named <game>.cf in the conf directory
for example mslug.cf for metalslug

This is great information; thanks a lot.

In addition to shuffling the player 1 controls around on the keyboard, though, is it possible to map the analog stick to the directional controls (this would make it easier to perform circle motions in fighters, I think)? This sounds like a non-trivial adjustment, so I'm assuming analog-derived control isn't possible in this version, but you never know...

Also, is it possible to configure a second player in the same way as the first player? Could I add a line "p2control A=..." and have it work as expected? I'm a little more hopeful for this one being possible...

So which file is taken by gngeo?
Started games are in MVS Mode (Level4) - Coins have to be added.

Entry "system unibios" in gngeorc does not help. Games don't even start then.
How to change to unibios?

I still haven't found a single ROM version that works with this GnGeo, not even the ones that worked with GnGeo from the GP2X. Newest MAME ROMs I have ar 0.114 or so, still to old I guess. And why are so many different versions out there, especialy for NeoGeo Games. I always thought a ROM is a 1:1 read out of the Game, so why not just support the pure 1:1 ROM like in many other Emulators and we never have to deal with non working ROMs anymore? ^^"

It's not that simple, as for neo geo, you can have multiple dumps for the same game, but different versions (mvs/aes/bootlegs). And the first dump had some data organization issue that were corrected as the understanding of the real hardware progressed.

For GnGeo, you can use a Mame .142 set. IT WORKS (for most games). You can't play most of the bootleg and some games that uses an unemulated protection system (in gngeo) like SVC Chaos, KOF 2003 (see early post to find the list of non working games).

You have to keep bios zipped in the rom folder, no 7z, nor rar. Be sure to use the last version of the emulator.

If you want unibios, browse this topic, and you'll find how, and what are the different issues with it.

Now, for more informations, the emulator writes a log file in /tmp. You can always take a look at it (vi, or any text editor/viewer you want). It will gives you informations about what's wrong with your roms/bios set (not found, bad crc or whatever).

It works with unibios.

I added the latest uni-bios.rom into the neogeo.zip.
In gngeorc I entered: system unibios

Works fine.

I only use Unibios during NeoGeo Emulation. :) It is a very nice invention.

Hi everyone; I have the same problem... I've installed the lastest version of Ngngeo; downloaded the bios files but games don't work. It says that romset needs to be redumped. Also I installed a bios called unibios... I read somewhere that it worked... but then it asks for some other files...

any ideas?

You could redump your set of ROMS with a different set of parameters as suggested by the program.
Failing that, get a newer romset

Can clrmamepro make a working new romset out of an old romset or is it only for "downgrading" ROMS? GNGeo still does not eat a single ROM I've tried, maybe I should try to convert my old ROMS to newer sets but first I need a .DAT file from GNGeo.

This post might get some help about the aracade ROM topic. ROMs were redumped over time for different reasons. Do not use GP2X ROMs, since grafx data is in the .gfx files and the .zip file contains dummy files, see here.

Can clrmamepro make a working new romset out of an old romset or is it only for "downgrading" ROMS? GNGeo still does not eat a single ROM I've tried, maybe I should try to convert my old ROMS to newer sets but first I need a .DAT file from GNGeo.

Let's say you have a MAME 0.141 set, then you need also a MAME 0.141 rollback set. The rollback set contains only the differences between 0.141 and all older MAME sets. With those two sets, you can generate a new set for every MAME version, see here. You can use old MAME binaries in clrmamepro (instead of .dat files).

With GnGeo 0.8.3, many ROMs from a newer MAME version (0.91+) run out of the box (e.g. AoF 1/2/3, FF 1/2/S, KoF 94-99, MS 1/2/3/4/X, Blazing Star, Last Resort, Shock Troopers...). See RBFF for example at MAMEDB, it changed from 0.90 to 0.91. You should be able to get those working quite easily.
