Took a very quick look through the opengl stub and from the aspect this could run, they use vertex arrays and fixed functions. There is shaders but they appeared to be via extension and can be run optionally (like they should be). Im certain some things would have to be defined out/renamed, but the core of it might work as is.
Next question would be is if the specialized hardware i.e. mat would work. I didnt look but i would expect usb and with a driver for the kernel that would have to be built.

Stepmania is often played with keyboard, no mat is strictly required. You can play with a gamepad but it's really cumbersome because you need to be able to hit opposite directions simultaneously.. to get around this the console versions will accept both the d-pad and face buttons as inputs.

I think it's possible, I use to play stepmania with a gamepad using the face buttons like a D-Pad and it works well. I think it's possible to make it the same way on caanoo.
