Does it look kinda plasticy? Whats with the power lead? Is that the one it comes with?
junker
yess~!!!
new photos!

thanks to anarchy for providing these nice big piccies for us
iignotus
Very nice looking, great to see it running on AC power, and the movement of the EXT port. The firmware looks great, but the videos seem a bit grainy. Is that just the photos?
Eolair
New images! Yeah baby, yeah!

Must not press confirm order...must not press confirm order...argh
junker
video is grainy cuz of the photos...see, everything is grainy, not what's on the screen
eolair, just confirm the bloody order, you know you want to tongue.gif
carlgeorge
That doesn't look comfy to hold at all. Hope the batteries last a while so I never have to use a power supply.

I am now a little worried that I ordered one already because that is the stupidist place I can think of to have the power cable plug in -- except for maybe the centre of the screen.

Eolair
So what do you guys think of the USB/Power ports. Will they be a problem or can you get your fingers around them somehow?

Man, that thing is sexy! More eye candy plz! laugh.gif
Shaolinmonk
wow the screen is just amazing .. compare to the DS and PSP the GPX2 is the KING ...
just soooo bright
DijiTao

amazed me.

Up till I saw that picture I was just thinking the only reason the GP2X looked so much better was the angle at which the picture was taken... Guess not.
Alpha2
I think the Power plug wont be as big a problem as some people think. just let the plug run between your middle and ring finger.
Eolair
Wow! Talk about difference in contrast blink.gif
Looks like the PSP brightness setting is competely off.
Empyre
Notice theres no metal contacts in the battery compartment, wonder if they found AA's dont fit or the solder points don't line up?

Theres an NDS and a PALM folder!!!! Hmmm

No. That's the contents of the Anarchy's cell phone SD card used for testing biggrin.gif
Alpha2
Those folders are probably just because he has them on his SD card.
DaveC
The screen looks to be lit from the bottom now rather than the right side of the screen like the BLU/BLU+ was. This could give more even lighting. I wonder if it scans horizontally now instead of vertical. That would help for scan line interrupt pallette switching like in Megadrive etc.

The PSP could be set on the dimmest setting so it is hard to compare brightness with that. I have a PSP and it is the brightest handheld screen ever, I doubt the GP2X will be that bright. I would guess it to be more like the BLU.

Yeah that looks to be the dumbest place to put a AC-in plug rolleyes.gif That is just a case of not thinking things out wink.gif The solution? Buy alot of rechargeables.
Slowfinger
I will repost here the info....

PREVIOUS NOTE:
This it's only a rapid translate of the comments that ANARCHY from www.hardcore-gamer.com had done with the test unit he has recived 'today'. Many thanks to him for the really goob support to all the GP32 and GP2X user here in Spain.

Fresh pictures of the GP2X.

Some of the first impressions with this TEST unit are:
-It dos not work with batteries. But this problem it's already solved by GPH .
-USB port disable by firmware (waiting a new release of the firmware).
-Stick have no 100% precision at the left (only happend at this direction). This fault looks to be already solved by GPH .
-Sound control dos not work and the sound it's very low. Nevertheless the sound it's very good (haedphones not already tested by Anarchy).
-By now firmware does not allow to run programs directly form the SD.
-Global feeling about robustness of the unit.

GPH are planing to release a new firmware every 2 or 3 weeks with new improvements.

Sorry for my english and one more time thanks to Anarchy.

Well I hope the thing works with batteries by the time its released dry.gif Hah.
Good thing GPH look to be fixing these problems as it would be rather criminal to release a half finished product....

I think thats a generic power lead. I can't find any information on the one for the gp2x, so there may not be an official AC power adapter for it. I think they just grabed the first thing that said 3.3v after using up the double A batteries that came with the unit. smile.gif

I know--that's probably my main complaint about the design. The things looked stupid and foolish at first, but they made the GP32 so nice to hold. Wonder why they left them out..
Alpha2
they don't really go with the more angular design. I think they wanted to get it as small as the could too.

Yeah, i thought they looked really stupid at first, but they definitely made the gp32 the best handheld to hold EVER. I hope that the gp2x feels comfortable without them.....

I wonder if those rubber-thingys are easily removed, or do I need to rip them of... As in, permanently?
yuujin
oh my this is looking extremely nice (no pun intended) ^__^ although i'm gonna miss my gp32, had to sell it to afford this baby..

No, you must live with them or cut them forever.
Nuron_V
The first thing i noticed when i looked at the unit was the lack of battery contacts

I'm assuming the beta units had the contacts removed, thus crippled so they didn't get sold off.

My first post btw, preordered a gp2x from gbax a few weeks ago and i've been silently watching these forums religiously.

I'm sure you'll get to know me, i should be around for a while

I doubt they left the contacts out to cripple it. One could easily solder some in.
Alpha2
I think the point is that it would take extra work to do so, so not really "that" easy, I know I wouldnt try to do it just to try and sell.

Actually if any of the poeple wanted to sell their's it'd be very simple to do so as long as they sold the adapter with it.

Remember these are preview/review units. they arn't meant to be final and thus dont need to be fully put together, just enough that you can see how they work in a limited environment untill they're ready to be out in the general population.
Slowfinger
Anarchy has test with many types of video playback and everithing at this point it's working very well (even with SMI subtitles).

Also has test with diferent sizes os pictures (even bigger than 1023x768) and again any problem with it.

Perhaps tomorrow we could see some videos and more pics...

Hey I was wondering if we could see the TV-Out port? I'm just wondering what the connection looks like. If not that's cool. BTW the system looks sweet smile.gif

Well, now I won't be able to sleep till I get one, it's being small and xmas all over again.

Thanx,

That's the USB port (by now disable by the firmware)

Here you can see more 'professional' pictures of the GP2X.

No, I think he means the thin black plastic thing just above the USB port, touching it. At that angle it looks like some sort of card, but I think that's just the bottom part of the case, which wraps around the indentation where the USB and power sockets are located.

Edit: in fact, if you look at http://minivian.com/photopds/review/gamepa...gp2x/gp2x_7.jpg, you can tell that it is exactly that.
