Here is some random poll.

Pick the answer that comes closest to the truth.
Comment if you've got something weird to tell.

Until I see a full speed SNES emulator for it I am not interested. The GP32 already fulfills most of my emulation needs (NES & Sega Genesis)

in order:

Emulation
Commerical Games

To me the backlight is a big selling point. (my gp32 is Nlu)
1-Ports and Emulators
2-Homebrew games (close second)
3-Commercial games
4-Multimedia (distantly)
Is bylram (sp?) creatures putting out anything on it? If so that gets the top spot.

I voted for a media because it will be first (and most obvious) use of the GP2x. The rest will be utilised too so don't worry.

Well DaveC that depends. Maybe it isn't for "watching" porn. In that case it goes under "Something completely different." If we can add vibration to it, we may have an entirely different use for it.
Emulation and Homebrew all the way!

I have to say emualtors and ports (duke nukem 3d, doom, quake, wolfenstien ect. ect.) have to be the biggest thing I am looking forward too. Then videos come in a very close 2nd, then of course indey games and comerical games come in 3rd.

Ditto, Nick, though I must say I have reservations regarding video. Then again, I understand that it shouldn't be long before the GP2X is working as a USB host - once it is, I and my 250GB USB drive will be quite happy with it.

So... why are you here?
I voted Coding Stuff, as I primarily intend to develop for the system, current planned projects being a Quake based FPS and a very intense top-scrolling shooter. Secondly I intend to use it to run emulators and play video/music since I am selling my PocketPC shortly.

I'm getting it for a few things... Primarily, as a portable media player. Next comes emulators and homebrew games (tie!), and then making some fun SDL games and porting them.

What the heck did you even bother saying that for? Not even CLOSE to what question is being asked. You seem to be interested in emulation, sure, but unless you voted for emulation, what did you post that for?
My first choice is for media, then ports, then emulation, then homebrew.

Originally the possibility of running emulators on the GP2X caught my attention,
but right now I'm more interested in the media playback capabilities.
I don't own a fancy pda, let alone a notebook (well, I got one, but it's almost as heavy as my desktop pc

), so the GP2X seems to me like the best choice to carry my documents (some eBooks, but mostly notes I wrote on the pc) around with me.
And just thinking about watching an episode of CowboyBebop on my way to university... I so have to get that thing. : D

Emulators and interpreters at first place, followed by homebrew, commercial (both indie and big name) games, multimedia, and a nice way to get to learn the basics of game programming.

EMULATION!
then that will be a good thousand games available at good speed with a good screen (my GP32 doesn't reach 166mhz and had a non-lit screen

)
then , ports and little games when i'll be bored by my SNES, mD/genesis pcengine, or even gameboy classics a good little duke nukem or etc would be nice
..... but for me that's mostly all but for multimedia i don't think i'll use it often , considering the size of videos etc ...

I've got a Pocket PC thats good for multi media and a NintendoDS thats good for playing games. I am hoping the GP2X will keep me amused enough to only have to carry one thing around. I would also like to learn some coding but the only programming I've done was in Basic on an Atari400.

Why would you want to convert TO mpeg 2, besides for a dvd? It's horrible, mpeg-4 is much better and of course of all those other formates (avi and divx).
Yes I know you were talking about not having to rencode, which I like too, but the fact that you said mpeg 2 was weird.

Right now I want it most of all to play emulated games on it, that's how I found out about GP2X. 2nd comes the fact that I can develop for it and that's really something I'm looking forward to do. And I'll be intersted to see if there will be any good games comming for it be it homebrew or more proffesional made. And I'll be using it for some media that's for sure. I would have loved to attach a HDD to it, I wonder if we'll be able to use the USB for that.

About the porn....well....I can see why soem people would want it for that...its portable, and you can use it one-handed.
I have the DS and its pretty cool, but the GP2X is different...its "underground" and I like that...Ive also wanted to work with linux and stuff and im going to try to learn C++ and stuff...
