Okay, Here's the deal.

I like to watch Tv series episodes during my lunchbreak, at 40mins long it's ideal, the problem seems to be however that after approx 8-9Mins of play (At any clockspeed) the video will just freeze, but it's not just a complete lockup as the Moviplayer menu still displays, you just can't exit back to the main menu or resume play/rew etc.

This happened for the first time yesterday so I thought I'd wait until today to ensure it's not just a badly encoded file (I didn't rip them), unfortunately it happened again with the next in the series (Once or twice) and the only way to carry on is restart.

This is annoying enough but it also happened whilst playing an album doing exactly the same thing after a few tracks, this leads me to think that something is still wrong with the sound subsystem, I know some apps have had issues after the upgrade.

(P.s the batts are fully charged 2500mah, FW 1.4 Official)

ive been having the same video problems while watching a a videos thru tvout keeps freezing every now and then have to restart to get ut working

very annpying

yep same problem. But i noticed a strange thing (maybe it is just a coincidence, i dunno) the video seems to freeze when i touch the headphone jack (you heard a noise in the headphone) O_o, but as i said, i may be only a coincidence.
greenpix
Maybe its because you are running the video in Safe Mode? (100mhz) You can change that in the Movie-Explorer with the Y button(it displays the current mode in the upper left)

I watched 2:18 of Batman Begins last night. I have no such problem.

No I dont think so, I have tried it at all settings, although save is too jerky to watch at this resolution

I was using headphones however I unless this is shorting something internally I'm not sure how this could affect things

Will test without phones now...
craigix
What brand of SD card?
Gaijin
2Gb A-DATA 50x - Samsung Flash

N.B Just tested again, no phones, Clockspeed=Normal, Next episode in series, slight glitch at 3 Mins touch of Y button to bring up menu resumed play, 13 Mins Full lockup Reset required.

Def something not right here, hope it's the firmware as
A - Craigix dreads returns laugh.gif
B - It's been a solid performer and I'm quite attached to it cool.gif

I have just updated to the newist firmware and when I try to load a video I just get stuck on the loading screen and the only way to get out of it is to switch the unit off and back on.

Any idea what's causing this, it was fine before the update.
Phil
Happens to me too, but not lately though.
hannanshah
It happens to me occassionally and randomly.
craigix
I've noticed it too, seems worse than previously.
Alpha eX
I've tried videos that I first watched when I got my GP2X and they no longer work, I just get what looks like pink/green tv fuzz and audio or either a black screen and audio.

Any idea what's going on, i've tried all 3 video type, Save, Full and the other one but still same problem.
Drak
This happens alot with my music player these 'lockups'.

It isnt permanent though, cuz i can just push the play button again and then its back to normal.

How bad is the movie using ffmplay? Then you can single out if it is app, or hardware a little easier.
nickspoon
The sync issues are fixed, but now it crashes during playback? Great.

Ah well, yet another reason for me to get ffplay using the video hardware (I'm getting there) smile.gif
Eso Rimmer
I experienced the same video lock up of mplayer too...
At least GPH have some reason to create repaired firmware with fast boot feature. smile.gif
Gaijin
Damn, this is a widespread issue.

Still with nickspoon's FFplay in the works, I can't see myself using the Movie/Music too much longer, how is the GUi coming along by the way?

Rimmer (I'm performing the salute as we speak) does your 150x card provide any advantage in apps/Emus like GP2PSX etc?
I was considering getting a faster card but up until now everything seemed pretty good...

nickspoon
Gaijin: GUI is on hold at the moment in favour of hardware decoding.

Sorry, but this 2GB card is the only one SD I have, so I don't know whether any difference is here. The only thing I can confirm is that this A-DATA works for firmware flashig.
Shikaku
I don't think this is an SD card issue. I think this is a software problem, because I have never encountered freezing (minus battery deaths) in MPlayer, because I have always used my 1 GB Kingston. Yet a little while after I install 1.4.0, it started. I'd say it happens for me every 1 hour of video play.

Craigx - is this a problem for brand new units pre-installed with 1.4 or is it purely units which have had their firmware upgraded?

Is it best to await the next firmware update before buying, or not?

Hi
I have have exactly the same prob,

So i put the Mplayer from firmware 1.0.1 instead of the one from 1.4.0.
First i loosed the power safe option (save, normal or full switch), then i'll tell you
if it freeze or not.

Bye

So,

I tested it and it seems to work,no more freeze (i ran a 30min video), then i made a little archive with mplayer from firmware 1.0.1, a script for installation, a script to remove it and a script to run it.

This will not remove your actual mplayer this will just add another mplayer, so don't worry you will still be able to use the mplayer from firmware 1.4.0.

you can get the archive here

with the cpu tweaker i tried to set the speed to 100Mhz, but i don't know if it works once mplayer101 is launched, so if someone could tell me. wink.gif edited:-----> Tested and it works.! smile.gif

bye

Hi,

I did more test this morning.I have one bad new and one good.

First bad, even with my trick, mplayer has finally froze. sad.gif
The good one is mplayer from firmware 1.4.0 is not the source of the freeze.

I was taking the fact for true that some people who launched mplayer in full or normal mode had the same problems, but i remembered when i launched for the first time Mplayer101 it was @full speed and not @100Mhz, and it did not froze after 30 min, whereas this morning it froze after ~10-15min @100Mhz. sad.gif

I relaunched just after the 1.4.0 mplayer @normal speed, and i did not encountered any prob after 20 min.
The test time was a little bit short so i'll test longer later, but the problem could be the underclocking. dry.gif
If not, it could more problematic. sad.gif

Has it has no effect, i'll remove the Mplayer101 archive from download.

Bye

I will have to put some series like Great Teacher Onizuka or Neon Genesis Evangelion to test how is it with that underclocking.
gp2xvideoman
I have a new unit with Fw 1.4 already installed.

I have the problem of the getting stuck at video loading screen

I discovered something

My video plays if its a single pass divx movie

if its a 2pass or more movie it hangs at the loading screen.

this is my experience and I hope it helps someone. if your video is stuck at the loading screen try to re-encode it using a single pass and see if it plays it then.
Justron
I'm having this problem with 1.4 also. Just wanted to add my noise to the hubbub.

Seems to happen with any file after between 8-15 minutes video, and after almost exactly one hour of music. Is there a memory leak in there or something?

2 gig SD card, 160x speed.
Eso Rimmer
I've watched about 6 episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion ( 320*xxx) in "normal" mode and it didn't frozen. It's strange...
cowai
I've never had any problems before I upgraded to 1.4... 1.01 rocks

This is a 1.4 issue.

My problem is that the video stops, not freeze, and when I press "Y" the videomenu pops down but it's useless.
Eso Rimmer
So, now I have FW 2.0 and video stops with this firmware too. sad.gif Do you have the same experience?
This problem is pretty annoying, because you have to restart gp2x and play video again. sad.gif(
