Full Version: Actual Resolution Of The Gp2x?

I've been told to shrink down videos to 320x180(I think, I might have the numbers wrong), but I'm curious.

Is that really the proper resolution to use the GP2X? The specs boast of 720x480, but maybe I'm misreading something.

Also: what's a good pair of rechargeable batteries, that are known to work well in the GP2X? I'm about to invest in some rechargeables, just want to find a good brand. wink.gif

I would think that's for widescreen video. 16:9, or what's it.

Actually, I've heard it can do something like 1024x768 on the TV out...

If you can pick up a set of Energizer 2500 mAH locally, I'd highly suggest to do so. Many people in the forums use the same set and they are fairly cheap too. I got a set of 2 for 12.46 CND (Canadian Dollars) at Wal-Mart after taxes.

As for video sizes, the GP2X can actaully decode a video at such a a resolution of 720 x 480 but if your displaying videos on your GP2X, the unit will shrink the actual resolution so you can view under the screen I believe. The only time where you would really notice the difference between a 320 x 240 video and a video with a resolution of 720 x 480 is perhaps when you would use a TV-Out cable. But under the screen, it's all the same to me.

yeah, basically it means that it supports the 720 x resolution. It technically doesnt PLAY it at that resolution, its impossible since its only got a 320 x resolution screen itself!!

If you, for example, put a 720 x film on a gp32, it would not work.
If you did this on gp2x it scales the file so it fits wink.gif if you put a super hd quality thing on there, it will work, on a tv out which displays a bigger display.
But 1024 is a lot for the little screen to handle, and it would simply suck.

The reason why gp2x supports this is because of these factors -

1) to make it easier to watch films on, simply drag them on, no encoding etc

2) for the tv out, to have a clearer picture wink.gif

its all flippin good.

Has anyone got any higher resolutions from the TV out cable? (yes I know TVs in the UK can only display 625 lines)

since the tv-out cable is analog, increasing the resolution will actually not help much with the picture. that said, i've not used a tv-out cable so i don't know what the maximum resolution it supports. but i do know that once you try to send a regular tv hi-def input it just scales it down or ignores it. for instance if you hook a computer up to a tv through s-video, you can increase the resolution on your video card but it will actually start to look worse on the tv since pixels don't end up getting shown 1:1.
