Well now, my GP2X was amongst the first batch, and since I got it, the firmware hasn't been touched at all. Not one bit. At first this was due to apprehension (possible destruction of only friend), but now it's a case of: what's the point?

I can cope with the 5 hour battery life as I don't travel that far, that often. And if I do I'll always carry a couple of spare sets.

The Red LED doesn't bother me at all, in fact, it adds to my enjoyment. It's like there's two little worlds inside my GP2X, one of glowing green people and one of glowing red people, and whenever I turn on their home, each group sends a little ambassador up to the surface to keep an eye on me (eg. checking that I don't attempt to destroy their universe).

There are no enormous problems with the video player. It might crash if I fast forward or rewind too much, and a few episodes of Malcolm in the Middle have been out of sync, but it's the games I bought my GP2X for.

And there have been no major problems with games either! So basically, I'm just wondering if there is any reason to upgrade from 1.0 or whatever? Will certain future programs and applications be incompatible with it or something? What?

Give me a reason to and I'll upgrade...

Don't upgrade then .... I only did to get rid of bad LCD flickering.

Obviously you're not using a 2gig card then.

Nor have flickering problems. Nor want a good e-reader. Nor want a 15 second boot.

The only reason I've upgraded the little beast is for the cramfs speed up boot.
As I try many things on my Gp2X, I have to reboot it very often. So I gained 20 seconds everytime I do so.

I only upgraded for the 15 sec boot also. I really do miss using cpu_speed.gpe to overclock without a script.

Yes, it's wonderful using that cpu_speed thingy with just the volume buttons. My eyesight's terrible anyway, the whole world is constantly flickering so the LCD thing isn't a problem, I only use the e-book reader for looking at the lists I obsessively produce without having to carry around hundreds of bits of paper everywhere I go, and the boot-time? Myeh. If I ever find myself in a situation where I HAVE to be playing Sonic Spinball within a minute else face death by stoning, THEN I'll upgrade. Thanks for the advice though, it will be useful in the future no doubt

Mine is still on 1.0.1, haven't found any reason to upgrade yet. I'm going to wait until there's a big reason (like nothing new runs anymore).

Since I got the cramfs fimware I haven't cared as much when my GP2X crashes (because I tried to write a script in notepad ) because:
A: It isn't hammering my NAND anymore.
B: It takes just over ten seconds to boot (which was actually less time than it took for the windows clock program to start with all these tabs open)
