Full Version: Am I The Only One Without A Power Adapter?

I bought my gp2x before they had the official charger so I decided to just stick with a 8 pack of 2500mah dub a's and a charger .

Since then I said that I would buy a charger for firmware upgrades . But I have done 2 on full charged batteries with no problems . I really see no reason to buy the adapter considering you can get a stock pile of batteries and a charger for the price of the dc adaptor .

If you do have one please tell me when you use it and why .

But my final conclusion is that you do not need a power adapter . ph34r.gif

I have one. I only use it at work, since I'm chained to my desk for 8 hours anyway, I figured I'd take it easy on my poor AAs smile.gif

I don't have one but would use it to play around the house so I don't have to worry about the charge level while I am playing.

four batteries does me fine. I just swap them when dead. I dont have enough time to kill two sets when im away from home usually anyhow.

I have one set of IC3 batteries, it sucks, I need more sad.gif

I would want one, but dont want to spend the money.

Demon Star: What the heck are IC3's?
Knoxximus
I got my power adapter from Fry's Electronics for $10 American. Didn't break the bank. cool.gif

IC3s are NiMh batteries whose cell structure is designed so that they can be charged in (generally) 15 minutes, as opposed to ~1hr for most fast-charing batteries. This, however, makes them overheat like a bastard, I mean really when you pop them out fully-charged you could fry eggs on them, so they don't last nearly as long as slow-charging ones. It's a trade-off.

Also, I have an adapter, but it doesn't really work so well... sad.gif I'm probably going to get one from ED or something.
Rayek
I haven't bought one, but if I'm going to utilize the TV-out, I'd like to not worry about power. For general use, though, it's not necessary.

iignotus: do ic3's say ic3 on them or are they just a certain make of nimh?

Yes, the say IC3 on them. Rayovac and Radio Shack are popular distributors of them. Evern if they don't specifically say IC3, they're the only batteries that charge in 15 minutes.

TV-Out is very heavy on your batteries. That's what I use my adaptor for. That and leaving my GP2X on while developing and not needing to worry about power.

I need to upgrade firmware, but I haven't gotten around to RadioShack to get a power adapter. Hearing that someone had no trouble flashing thier 2x on batteries appeals to my lazy side. Although someone else here mentioned that the faster rechargables don't last as long as the slow charging ones. The official gamepark instructions only mention that you need a fully charged pair of batteries. Though I'm sure they're assuming they're not rechargables. Well if its really that much of a concern, (like in my case) get the power adapter. smile.gif

6 X 2500 AAs but I don't have too much time to kill or a TV-Out
iggywig
I got 4 2500mah AAs.I have no problems with that at the moment.. Just ordered my TV out cable though so I guess I'll need an adaptor now!
sand_man
I have one but I didn't buy it just for my 2x. It's one of those universal ones. I rarely use it though because of the position of the socket.

I just use Ansmann 2500 NiMH photo batteries - last about 5 hours per pair. I don't see the point of an external power supply anymore as the batteries last long enough, and the PSU is inconvenient to use and handle.

Stick with batteries!

Me too. I have 4x2500 NiMH that I got at Maplin for a tenner. Depending on usage, a set of two lasts anywhere between four and seven hours.

Unlikely to get an official adapter as I really have to stop buying accessories for this damn thing now. She's been spoiled enough. She got a new screen protector, a new TV out cable, a new Joystick Cap and a new carry case. And this morning she was in such a violent sulk that I was forced to buy her a 2GB SD card before she'd even speak to me. She is an evil mistress intent on draining my bank balance.

I got a bunch of rechargeables, including 4 2500mAh.
I did get the DC adapter because I cannot resist a bargain.
Mine is RadioShack brand, 3V 1000mA and cost me $4.98
And I use it mostly for long games, since I don't trust my battery LED. (It'll light up like 10 seconds before dying on me)

Is that person in your avatar holding an M-16 or AR-15? And where is that person at? huh.gif
kaltepracht
I have 8 2600mAh Ansmann rechargeables in rotation. They're fine for flashing the firmware on a full charge and I haven't had any problems with them yet. No need for a power adapter here, though I wouldn't say no to one.
simpo
I have one but i've only used it for updating firmware so far because

a) don't really like the position
cool.gif it's a bit loose, i feel like i'll pull the cable out by accident at any time and lose whatever i'm doing tongue.gif
