Been keeping my eye on this for a while. Just seen a friend's Creative Xen video (2.5" 30GB) and thought I'd ask how mature this is now...

1) How good is divx/xvid playback? I only watch episodes of certain US shows which I don't want to re-encode just to watch on a portable.

2) Gaming interest is Mame, Sega Megadrive and GBA. How good are these emulators (if they exist)?

3) Can it take a 2GB SD card?

1) Pretty good. There are a few bugs, especially with divx3. No reencoding is usually required. AC3 (dolby) is not supported.

2) GBA is a long way off if it is ever possible.

But:
Almost always compatible with XviD/DivX (you might have external subtitle problems however, but that can quickly be changed.)

GBA isn't exactly... going to be done right now because of legal reasons but the rest is great (Neo Geo games require seperate emulator for greater speed)

And yes, it can even take a 4 GB card =)

Divx/Xvid is generally unproblematic. Widescreen videos with subtitles might be a little on the small side though, I find it best for full screen. The only downside is batterylife. a fully charged 1850 MAh rechargable will last you maybe hour long shows give or take few minutes. (I find it closer to 3 and a half, half hours shows.) Always bring spare batteries, just in case.

The viability of GBA games is less an issue of legality as it is technology. It's simply hard to do so and people arent intersted in trying so hard when the GBA is still a viable system with it's own homebrew scene. After all that then comes the issue of nintendo possibly throw a legal hissy fit.

Shikaku: I wasn't aware of any legal obstacles to GBA emulation. It hasn't stopped VisualBoy for Windows, for instance. What did you mean?

It's more like a moral thing. They say emulators aren't illegal but some devs see a problem with writing a GBA emulator seeing as you can still buy the hardware. All you need to do is find a dev who is willing to do it.
