i've been thinking about buying a gp2x. i'm mostly interested in using it to run little sound dj. i can't find a cart because they're not being made anymore. the gp2x seems like a perfect alternative - and more.
i was wondering what sort of experiences people have had with gameboy emu sound. was it reliable? did it work at all?
also, it seems that there are all sorts of music programs that can be run with other emulators - any suggestions?
thanks

The sound in GnuBoy2x is better than on the original gameboy (mono/color/advance) in quality and probably in accuracy as well. Is that what you wanted to know? Your question is rather broad.

i guess the question is a little vague. that's pretty much what i wanted to know.
i've run lsdj through emulators in slackware and mepis (kigb, vba, etc..) and the sound can be choppy at times. basically i'm wondering if it will hold up in a live performance or recording situation. thanks for your quick response.
i'm also interested in other sequencer/tracker programs i can run while on the bus or w/e. if i can load short lo-fi samples into it i'm happy. that's why i haven't bought nanoloop - lsdj supports loading of samples directly into the ROM.

keep on reading past the start, it goes beyond drum machines and into trackers

try gnuboy on your box, should give you the most accurate picture of how it will run at gp2x.

I really hope you're kidding.

Well obviously it can't be better than the original in accuracy of emulation; that was a misappropriation of words (even though it's near, if not at, 100%) -- surely you've got enough wits about you to have figured that. However, the sound coming out of my gp2x beats that coming out of any of the Gameboys I've ever had. It's louder and a bit sharper -- better speakers.

What's to kid about?

yep the gp2x has better speakers and it is in stereo. Although I don't know if it can get as loud as my old gameboys.

Better speakers don't really make up for inaccurate audio emulation. I'd call the latter much more important than the former. But I suppose that's open to debate. I'd rather have it sound 'real' than 'sharper' though.

The accuracy is incredibly close to the original, and it is my opinion that it sounds much nicer on my GP2X. But as you alluded to, to each his own. wink.gif
