One word.
Render.

Something about 15,000 shades of gray topped with glitter makes that particular unit look quite cheap.

The power light isn't on.

Maybe because of the light? Can't see mine if it's on if I am in a lighted area.

It looks like it has fimware 1.0 or something outdated. That is probaly why the light is not on.

If you look at the beta videos, you can see that he picks up a white unit, and goes through the functions - but behind it, if you look hard, you can see a row of about 3-4 more units, each with custom paintjobs. There were dark-grey, black, white, and some other variation of the original gp32 variety there.

I'd believe it's a real custom job.
But the text in the corner looks like it says "personal multi-game player" or something along those lines.

Or someone realy did a very nice paintjob (which I think), or someone had a lot of freetime

Why is everybody screaming that almost everything is photoshoped?

That cannot be a custom paintjob - that person would have to have had the GP2X decal to put over the new coat of paint.
[Edit] Not to mention that the decal states "Personal Game Player" - which was the original wording put into the logo - it was later changed to Personal Entertainment Player

looks like a prototype unit to me. photoshop is good software but in this case (and in most cases) it'd be easier to just photograph the real object. the screen looks drawn on, however.

Is it just me, or do you guys actually believe it to be a real gp2x? To me, it seems to be cg render...because of the awkward frontal lighting, and lack of scanlines... (old firmware from looks of it...)
Paradox
Apr 23 2006, 10:44 PM
its not a render, and not every unit has scalines (mine doesnt) the screen looks pasted on though..not sure if it really is though
it's a prototype of some sort...pictures been around before the 2x was even released..

The screen could have been photoshopped - photographs of LCDs are usually washed out, so they dub the image over in post-production.

That is a beta unit ,
The screen is photoshopped in ,
It was obviously painted by GPH to test the waters,
This picture is extremely old , it was the first one I saw when the unit was announced .

maybe GPH could sell replacement cases. it's not that hard to remove the casing, though I imagine trying to remove the LCD from the front and insert it into a new case would be pretty hard, without getting dust allover it too....meh, forget that idea then.

Apr 24 2006, 01:11 PM
Or They could always go the cheap route and sell aplicators that cover up the old case. Saw a product like that for the PsP just the other day.

GPH should hold a GP2X Cover Contest.
Then the winners name will be shown at the inside of the battery holder

It's Anna Hong, also known as "admin" on gp2x.com.

And for people who still wonder about the silver GP2X: It was a prototype which was shown from GPH to the korean community last year. They could vote which design they liked at most AFAIK. (and the black one won)

Nope, she is now known as "master".
