Thanks for taking the time to do this - I know that many of us were burning with curiousity smile.gif Do you mind if I mirror it? That site is kind of a pain to download from.
daclassicgamingmaster
wow that's really fast!

Im surprised. And zodttd says there is plenty more to do, so this should be very playable soon!

yay!!

It's free for anyone to do whatever with it. Go ahead, I'll update the link when you do.

I am also uploading it to the filearchive, I should have done that in the first place =/
PokeParadox
That site keeps saying I'm already downloading something from it... so I can't get the file (I'm also downloading nothing!!!)

Put some putty on that green light. tongue.gif

Christ that's blurry as hell, but you can sort of tell what's going on. Looks quite fast. Does anyone have a TV out cable and a capture card? That would be better for making movies...
Huxley
Thanks for that Shikaku, looks very impressive indeed. Can't wait!
CABBAGES
I have tv out cable and capture card biggrin.gif but i dont have the beta sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif . I donated to him today tho so maybe i will get to try the second beta biggrin.gif i hope !!!
PokeParadox
I'm going to see if I can get it working again (my cap card.)
Loubear
Any framerates for us?
PokeParadox
OK, I figure keep all the videos in one place, right? Well I have a video capture of Chrono Cross it's just encoding now. I had to use the TV-Out fixer but it looks ok I think.

I'll update this post when I have it encoded and uploaded somewhere. smile.gif I'll also try and get a few more videos together.

EDIT: Link removed, to much bandwidth being used up.
virusx
Thank you for this video, it show that this game is almost playable even if it's still slow.
Faster, yes ! But "fast"... biggrin.gif
PokeParadox
More Videos (FF7 and Soul Blade should be up as a type this. Wipeout has just started uploading, so give that a few moe mins!):

EDIT: Links removed, too much bandwidth being used up.

When the next beta comes out, if I do some more video captures, I'll resize the videos back down to 320x240, since the GP2X is doubling the pixels to make the TV Out picture.
devestation
Cool PokeParadox. It looks like FF7 is very close to being playable.
Paradox
the quality is pretty poop. you could have covered that damn light too! and there's not a whole lot of game time..mostly just the menu/into =( but having tested Re2 with almost every other version extensively, i can tell you it looks a hell of a lot faster.
PokeParadox
What light? ... oh.
Check out my video capture videos.
virusx
Video captures are better for sure !
I could even pretend to have this beta too. rolleyes.gif
lubidog
This is really coming along! Wipeout looks very good!

I'm amazed, frankly!

Thanks for the videos, keep 'em coming!

Probably you should edit the title of this topic, and put all the links to your videos in the first post ...

More Videos (FF7 and Soul Blade should be up as a type this. Wipeout has just started uploading, so give that a few moe mins!):
Final Fantasy 7 - OC 280MHz, Default settings
Soul Blade - OC 280MHz, Default settings
Wipeout 2097 - OC 280MHz, Default settings

Are these speeds without sound?

What clock speed is RE2 run at in that video?

Yes.

EDIT: Well it seems like I may have to take those videos offline shortly... the B/W is climbing up and up and up. I think I'll put them up on google video next time.
jansport
It looks like youtube and Google Video don't seem to accept .ogm video format ( shame on them! ), I managed to grab the Chrono Cross video, will see if I can convert to a format that is compatible with the aforementioned video viewers.
PokeParadox
It's just a case of resaving it as an AVI using "direct stream copy" in Virtual Dub. The only reason I saved it as OGM is because as an AVI it was always adding in a silent PCM audio track that was adding about 3-4MB onto each video. Good luck. If you manage to convert it, would you mind doing the same for the other vids and let me know here when you have?
Jarska333

PokeParadox
Haha... I know! I did that! But whatever I tried, it kept inserting a blank PCM stream. I perhaps have an old version of VDub or something.

EDIT: Just to inform everyone that I have removed links to the beta videos I posted, an also removed them from my webspace. This is because too much bandwidth was being used. I think I've decided I'll either use GoogleVideo, or YouTube in future for this sort of thing.
Anyone that has the videos are welcome to distribute them however you fancy.
jansport
Ok as it turns out all I had to do is rename the .ogm file to .avi to get it working with youtube. Here's the link anyway for the Chronos Cross gameplay video ( no audio ):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9Bk-_AHITo

That's the only video I manage to grab from the batch you put up PokeParadox.
PokeParadox
Thanks for "saving" the Chrono Cross video, and sorry you didn't manage to get the other videos before I removed them... If people still want them I'll put them online somewhere, although it may be better to just wait for the next beta and make some new videos?
Fishbong
I made a Armored core: Project Phantasma video. smile.gif

get it here.
Or watch it on Youtube

Yep, I think it's better to wait as well it'll be cool to see ( and hear ) what the end result will look like. Great job on capturing the videos by the way, the interlacing is fairly noticeable though I think I can have a go at fixing it with Cinelerra.
lubidog
That is incredible.

Hello Mates:

i´ve uploaded some videos at youtube, the games are Bomberman and Legend of mana.

Legend of mana:
- Graphics: presents some bugs in the map screen and in transactions
- Speed: 10 fps around
- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BaZ-Sl0jN4
- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdOi9vjQwsw

Bomberman:
- Graphics: 100%
- Speed: 10-15 fps ingame, 15-20 in menu
- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDLwSrgwfYI
Shaddac
Just a slightly off-topic question.. If a game runs like for an example at about 15 fps ingame with no frameskip (like Legend of Mana), does that mean with frameskip 1 it will run twice at fast, i.e. 30 fps? If so, then this is incredible work indeed!!
Sorry if I'm wrong, I've never really mastered the theory around frameskip and autoframeskip ^^.

Cheers!
/Shaddac

edit: ok, LoM runs at about 10-12 fps, but it's still incredible smile.gif

frameskip means that instead of displaying frames 1, 2, 3, 4; it will display 1,3,5,7. this way you get better speed by sacrificing smoothness. but the actual frames are still drawn at 15 per second.
Shaddac
Yeah, that much I knew. But playing with frameskip 1 in emulators isn't that much of a difference for most people. Only real hardcore gamers yab about frameskip 1 not being smooth enough ^^. I read in one of these gp2psx threads about the PS1 (the real machine) playing all games at fps 30, is that true? I don't think I saw someone neither confirming nor dementing it? In that case, it feels like the dream might come true one day smile.gif
Jarska333
It was the battle in FF7, that was in 30 fps.

2d games are different than 3d games with respect to frameskip. 2d platformers, for instance, usually feature sprites with movement animations of only a few frames. skip one of those frames and you might ruin the illusion of movement...characters run backwards, enemies magically teleport, etc.

but 3d games are rasterized on the fly from polygons whose locations are constantly updated. so if you lose a frame it's no big deal since the next frame is "perfect" in the sense that it will continue to create the illusion of motion. i'm assuming that it was for this reason that square decided to cut the framerate for some of the parts of games that might lag otherwise.

so i'm hopeful about playstation emulation, as it seems everyone is, and one reason is that a lot of the games probably won't suffer from skipped frames.

heck - movies are shot at 24 fps anyway.

What really bothers me is that almost all results posted here are made on units OCed to 280MHz, I wonder how will it look on units that don't go that high. For example, mine can go stable only to 255MHz in gneogeo on 2x2500mAh Energizer Acus...

Winning Eleven 2002 - Patch 03/04

Man, that game is running at that really good speed because is running at 290Mhz, not all GP2X reach that mhz easily (or much time...) :S

Final Fantasy VII
- Graphics: 80%, glitches in people polygons
- Speed: 15-20 Ingame, 20-30 in Battle
- PLAYABLE
- VIDEO - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpuWmFxg_c0 (Sorry for the poor quality)

I made a Tales of Destiny 2 video, the game runs very nice, with interlacing enabled it is even faster!

The video shows FMVs, ingame cutscenes, gameplay and battles from the game. It is captured With a TV card from the TV out of the GP2X.

It is in 2 "scenes". The second scene (later ingame) runs much faster because of interlacing enabled, but also doesn´t look that good.

Watch it here on Youtube.
pferguso
How can I beta test this? I have a GP2x, a 4 gb SD card, a TV out cable, a Pinnacle Systems DC2000 capture card with Svideo capture capability, and a bunch of PSX games already ripped for this. I have already provided a couple compatibility reports on the GP2PSX wiki. I have several games that weren't even tested on there yet.
rokdcasbah
it was marcus brigstocke, and he said "If Pacman had affected us as kids we'd be running around in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music."

the second beta will be open.
