I used the headphone jack for the first time since I got my gp2x...and it's really really really noisy.
even with the volume turned down, there seems to be a load of white noise coming through the headphones.
is this normal?

The white noise is, but you need to turn on the sound limiter in the GP2X settings when using headphones

Definately not normal, I sent mine back and got it fixed by ED...
(but I had white noise coming out of the speakers too)

Ah, I don't get that on my speakers, only in the main GP2X menu on my headphones, but these are pretty powerful headphones, it happens with my DS too

I've just had another look/listen.
It's not there when the startup sound plays.. but kicks in at the green screen.
I just loaded Vektar as a test, and the "noise" seems to be a lot less once the game had loaded.
Also.. it's less like white noise, and more like the sound you get on an old TV when there is too much white on the screen or something.
I will get some mp3's and vids on there to see if the noise is still there during playback too.

The GP2X is not a gaming or multimedia handheld. It is a bridge of communication to the afterlife.

JaqMs. We all know that you don't like the GP2X but you don't have to butt your nose in every thread to take a jab at it. Don't like it, don't read about it.

No, but I did have an enjoyable game of tetris with Attila the Hun

Hmm... that is a bit shoddy. I haven't heard about too many people having that problem. Ask ED what he did to "fix it," and maybe it is something in your home that is causing interference?

Mine is perfecktly clear, probably a bad solderjoint, send it back to get it fixed should cost you only postage, if anything at all.

Oh no, he didn't really fix it... The sound processor on mine was probably broken, so he sent me a different one.

First try a different pair of headphones just in case that one's contacts aren't snug or something. I've had headphones that are fine in one device, but then noisy in another. Worth a shot anyway.

make sure you push the headphones in all the way. I made this same mistake. You don't have to force them in. Just apply some force and the headphones should click in all the way.
