I use my USB-hosted 60gig hardrive with my GP2X all the time, but then .. I made my own EXT->USB cable ..

Unless you are very technically knowledgeable (in which case you wouldn't be asking), the answer is "no".

Yes, power it with 4 AAA NiMH 1,000mAh (I use an enclosed battery box from Radio Shack with included switch) and terminate the Host side of the USB coming from the EXT on the bottom of the GP2X.

Use a Samsung e810 serial (NOT USB) reprogramming cable, I got mine from a webshop for $5, try eBay too.

If you use Alkalines the voltage will be over 6 volts. The NiMH are rechargeable and the voltage is lower.

My sig has a link to the gp2x wiki with the schamatic for the circuit. Only 2 resistors and 1 Capacitor per USB line (6 total).

Basically a BOB is a better solution.. It isn't that hard to take a BOB with you on the road..
