I was wondering if someone could answer the following questions.
1. how bright is the screen compared to the DS lite or PSP?
2. How many levels of zoom do you have when viewing photos?
thanks!

1. The screen gamma can be adjusted in a program (CPU/LCD tweak).
2. One, that I know of, in the default picture viewer.

WRONG
1. The MK2 is about as bright as the DS, but you can adjust the gamma via CPU/LCD tweak.
2. You can zoom in/out as much as you want, it goes pretty far in and out

Its not as bright as the psp but it is still a way better screen becuase it doesnt have the HORRIBLE ghosting of the psp's screen.

Really? It seems so much brighter than my DS.

Ah, yes, I didn't notice the volume control zoom option.

DS Lite is fairly comparable to a GP2X MK2 (had both side by side in Sam's Club), but I am unsure of the viewing angle. DS Lite may come out ahead.

How does the GP2X handle resizing photos? IF I where to put a 2048x1571 photo would there be any problems with the GP2x software?

Wow its pretty interesting how everyone is interested in gp2x for sometimes very very different reasons. I think it should handle it okay. I threw some pretty big photos at it. Like 2000 x some number. It was good. A little slow switching between them tho like a 1 to 2 sec delay. I guess that happens if the bigger the pictures are.
Oh and brightness... its good you dont need to worry about it. I have mk1 and its damn good for me and mk2 is supposed to be even brighter?

I've just tried the largest image I had, it's 3456x2304

I did both side by side. The GP2X M2 is *slightly* brighter than the DS lite on setting 2 of brightness, settings 3 & 4 are much brighter on the lite.
Gamma control doesn't effect screen backlight brightness it just brings up the darker shades a bit.

The '2x could easily handle larger photos with some better photo viewer software, or some alterations to the existing one. Some of the default apps are pretty messy, but with a bit of work, could be downright amazing. The machine's capabilities are often a bit underestimated from what GPH did with it ..

What they did? You mean expand DVD player firmware as their base for the OS?
I think we will eventually have better, likely in the form of ported applications for other PDA's or PC's running RISC and Linux.

That's not the issue. No new OS implementation is needed, just a better photo application that manges memory better ...
