Hello Everyone,
Here is Vektar boxed:

Note the photo just has a dummy SD card in it, I've not recieved the new stickers for the SD cards yet.
It should be shipping this week, as long as I don't get any new bug reports from the beta testers. A new demo will follow the full game (I was going to post a demo last week, but thought it was better to post when the game is available).

I've no easy way of getting screen shots at the moment.
It comes on a 128MB SD card and has a 60mb licenced sound track.
I hope to get some people to post reviews etc. fingers crossed you will like the game, I think i've got the retro feel / new look balance right.
More news soon.

Cool this will be great.
The only thing I would have changed would have been the shape of the ship. It is an exact rip of the Geometry Wars ship, copyright infringement?
Other than that looks cool.

Do you have some screens which show GWars's ship? I've never played it before. I did play a PC clone and laughed at just how much Vektar and GW are so different (yet look so similar).

I guess it isn't. Could have sworn it was exact, I must have been drunk

Correction, I meant, commercial gp2x game cases. (I figure most commercial game cases will look the same)
Are they easy to order them in my closet like how you do with Dvd cases?

is the box that annoying plastic type which needs to be blasted with an atomic bomb to get it open, thus destroying the box?
i was hoping for a box i could shelve and keep =(
Draken
Jul 31 2006, 05:35 PM
Oh yeah, now you mention it, it looks like that. I was hoping for a collectible shelvable case too.

I would have suggested using a paper/cardboard box, as plastic is very hazardous to the environment.
BTW craigix, did you do any beta testing for the game?

If it was chop apart, I doubt he would have sealed a dummy SD card in there. It'd make a waste of a box.

Psh..you that fret over boxes are crazy. Some of those psp/ds games sell more then the gp2x itself. They have money to blow on packaging. I'm sure we could have cases just like that for 4-5 more dollars a unit.
That would just be an inflated cost where the profits go to nobody..

I don't mind the blister pack. Boxes are nice, but take up a lot of space. The graphicalised bit in there... Is that a manual or just a piece of cardboard? Just curious.
Oh, also: It would be cool if there were stickers for the SD card holder as well, so you could have a cover that is a Vektar cover.
Sparr
Jul 31 2006, 09:00 PM
if i had shipped this, it would have been in just the standard SD case... sticker on the front and back. guess im a minimalist.
PS: maybe you have to save the stick figures?

sorry to say this in a vektar thread, but although this game looks great, and I'll probably buy it eventually, I'm REALLY looking foward to payback.
Do you have a better idea of when it'll be available craig? That's a sure-shot deal for me.

Jul 31 2006, 09:12 PM
Yeah, I thought it would be a nice case like the DS and PSP have. But ah well. Still looking forward to the game. Maybe I'll go for the download version...

Jul 31 2006, 09:20 PM
Well, each SD card will have an SD holder (from the picture)... isn't that the case?
The blister pack is just on Intel's old idea of "people want big things for their money".
Looking forward to this, though.

*is still curious as to whether that back-bit is a manual or just regular cardboard fancy-pants stuff.*
I'm quite tired of memory card blisters in general being so damn huge. There are too many different kinds and sizes these days for us small shops to possibly have room for them all! They could be a quarter of their current size, and not a tear would be shed.
So yeah, manual? Possibility of "cover" sticker for the SD card holder?

Licensed soundtrack? Awesome backgrounds *cough*?

What's all this about not likeing the blister-pack? If the game's good then it won't be in your shelf, surely, it'll be in your GP2X or in your pocket, ready to play.
Looking good, Craig.

The minimum number for manufacture of a 'DVD case' SD card box is 5000. It would add at least $6 onto the price of the game. Not going to happen, it's only a box and the clamshell pack we have decided on is the best value and looks good.
Plus I bet that most people just use the smaller SD case anyway.

Is the SD card or game going to be "locked" or copyprotected in anyway? Or are we going to be able to simply copy the contents of the game to our normal SD cards that contain all our other programs? I'd really like to see some kind of copy protection, b/c I'd hate for ppl to email this to each other.

craigix
Aug 1 2006, 03:12 AM
It is protected yes. However if you have bought the SD version you will be allowed to download a version of the game free once the online system is active, which will work on any SD card as long as it is in your registered GP2X.

Sounds just like it should be :-)
But honetsl, i realy dont see a sense in thoose blister packs, they arent pretty enugh to be colected so they will land in the trash anyway, so why not just ship the sd in a little sd case with a sticker on it and save the additional cost for the blister crap?

It is just locked to the SD (boxed version) right? We can backup the contents to our computers though can't we? This way if the card the game comes on gets corrupt we can just re-format that card, copy the files from the computer back to that card and it will work.
