i'm sure most people around these parts are already geek enough to be hitting refresh on engadget without me pointing it out ... but for those who aren't, there's an 8gb sd card in the pipeline ...
http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/31/pretec-...-8gb-sdhc-card/my question: is the gp2x SD 2.0 (SDHC) compliant?

so far only a maximum of 4gb is supported, higher capacitys will be supported by future firmwares.

=/ Wait till stores have them to worry about whether they work or not...
How could a device from Nov 2005 be compatible with a standard that's just coming out? I don't think this is an issue that firmware alone could address, much more like hardware. Chances are it will never be supported on the GP2X

nah, hardware is fine, after all its just a spi bus.

Uhh... it's called STANDARDS?

It's a bit confusing since it says there that it's not backwards compatible.

i can't help it, i'm a forward thinking individual

but yeah, i don't see SDHC anywhere on wikipedia's
different types of sd cards chart ... so i still wonder if it's a standard the gp2x could possibly support, if the firmware was upgraded as vimacs says.
but yes, i guess later this year when the 8gb hits stores ... we will see!

If I'm not mistaken, the main difference between SD and SDHC is the fact that SDHC uses FAT32, while most older SD capable devices don't understand FAT32 and are therefor incompatible (The original SD standard didn't include FAT32). The GP2X already understands FAT32 though, so it might "just work" without even a firmware update.

Ah. I only have a few, and my 1GB card is 3MB shy of totally full. I was going to get another 2GB card, they're cheap enough, but I'm lazy so I keep deleting roms to make room as needed

I hope they work. Then I can just buy one huge one and be done with space for a while.

my 4GB and 2GB are both full and I'm too lazy to swap them back and forth, so 8GB sounds good to me.
