I have every plan to be a developer (for GP2X), but for accurate statistics for the moment I answered No. Since I'm not. smile.gif
Epicenter
I got my GP2X in Spring of this year as a dev platform, which is what I always wanted it for. I wasn't around back in the GP32 days, but their success is a big part of why I decided to develop for this machine (and now the XGP units on the horizon as well.) I'm writing a top-scrolling shooter based on an original engine at the moment with some other projects planned for the future, 2D and 3D ambitions alike. The emulators and media functionality of the machine were really nice bonuses.

There should be an option for "Had a GP32, but sold it to buy a GP2X" smile.gif

Sorry, can't seem to be able to edit the poll questions smile.gif

i do games computing at uni and want to start developing but havent had time this summer due to one thing or another popping up when i was about to start.

was also going to do something for my dissertation this year on GP2X but unsure since lecturers want to test and see projects which will be difficult if they dont own a GP2X.

have seen several posts mentioning OpenGL for GP2X. is OpenGL useable for GP2X or is it still a WIP?
pea
I believe Klimt is an openGL port for mobile devices. There was work (and working demos) on the GP32, but not to sure about the GP2X.

There's WIP for OpenGL on the GP2X - http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/OpenGL

awesome smile.gif going to take a look at that when i finish work. might even give me the motivation to create something at last

Goo to see lots of pre-GP2X users still here - and by the looks, most now also have a GP2X
lizard808uk
I still have my GP32, although the amount of stuff to back it up with - soldering iron and screw drivers to keep it working makes it annoying sometimes (I have a dodgy FLU cable and the D-pad is buggered ) I'm really tempted with the GP2X deal @ GP2x.net.au. But recently I got an NDS lite with Animal Crossing and that has taken up a lot of time when I'm travelling about. (DS's are about $100 second hand from EB games)

As for the boards, being out in Western Oz has meant very little online time, so can only check the site when I'm at Internet cafes. However with my shiny new NZ work visa, I should be on here more often smile.gif

Yep, that would include me too smile.gif

Before I ordered my first GP2x in November (arrived December), I was looking on the forum, but didn't register initially. I wanted to make sure there was enough available to play on it first, and forthcoming developments. I think I heard about the GP2x on CraigX's site - gp2x.co.uk and read up about it.

I got my first GP2x, had many issues with it, got my money back (from gp2x.co.uk), bought another one March as I recall (gp2x.co.uk) - been using that one since. Registered as a member in January, while I was "between GP2x's".

Aren't the results going to be a bit skewed with this being in the GP2x section?

its on the frontpage

Could also add to the Poll: if you have just a GP32 or both GP2X and GP32, do you still use your GP32?

I am glad to see so many respond to this poll. I was wondering how many people hang around the site being that the membership numbers seem to be up into the 9000 range. Before I joined, I read a lot as a visitor and then got my GP32 back in the middle of 2005. That is when I joined. I ended up getting my GP2X at the first of July this year. I still have both and I rarely pick up my GP32. My GP2X dominates my gaming time! smile.gif

This is not on the front page anymore. I too am wondering if it will be missed by a lot of members. unsure.gif
sensible GP32
i always think its nice to see people still going for the gp32,

its such an awesome handheld smile.gif

Hey Lizard, hope you are having a good time in Aus. I bet the weather is better than here.
Yes, the results may be a little skewed. I just hoped the GP32-only members would also read this board.

Although I came along after the GP32, it was an article in retro-gamer about the GP32 that got me interested. I actually wanted one even though the GP2X was already out just because there was already a lot of software available for it, (I also felt it looked 'cuter' smile.gif ) but I couldn't find anywhere to buy one.

The other thing that got me interested was the Gizmondo: A few months before they went bust one of my friends who worked for them sent me two for free to see if I would be interested in developing for it. Once Gizmondo went bust, the homebrew scene started to come to life and I got a taste of what GP2X ownership would be like. I liked it! The Giz got better when Gizmondo went bust!

I haven't developed anything for the GP2X yet, but I do intend to when I have some time to dedicate to it.

If the percentages are representative of the community as a whole, there are a lot more developers out there than I would have expected.

Probably all 30 developers have voted and most of the non-devs can't be arsed smile.gif
BobBorakovitz
I'm a non-dev but I've both systems. My GP32 doesn't get used too much anymore. Although, since I got Blue Angelo it has gotten a little more love lately smile.gif
kevcal
I still plan to dev - trying (unsuccessfully) to get sdk setup under linux sad.gif
Don't have svn installed so trying to handbuild stuff..
Already code lots in Allegro, so that'll be where my interest lies.

The weather has been pretty good. It gets really cold at night though, as we drive cattle on the edge of a desert. I'm actually looking forward to getting a proper desk job with like a stapler and pen tidy thingy.

Topic: I'm going to try and fix my GP32 as soon as I get the red dust out of it and hopefully contribute more to this site soon smile.gif
g4m3r
I came when the GP2X was anounced, and I think were taking pre-orders.
daclassicgamingmaster
i was the tie breaker for the "when did you come along?" bit.

Proud to say that the good ol' 32 was my first love smile.gif
PSyMastR
Wow, Pre2x and Post2x members are almost equal.
pea
Of the 150-ish respondents to the poll, over 50 are devs for either the GP32 and/or GP2X. That is pretty impressive.

i got my GP32 FLU just after GPEngine released. Spring 2002? have i really had it that long? wow...

watching the scene for maybe a year and change before that (i guess since GP32 was pretty new). anyway, i have been watching the GP2X scene with a fairly keen eye since, as well.. and some guys in my office have picked them up as well, but a few things have kept me from adopting. batt life, joystick (usual) but most of all $$. Between my GBA micro and GP32 (with DrMD and Mame) it feels like i am already very covered for games. If/When GP2X gets literally "perfect" SNES emulation (to the degree and ease of use as there is with DrMD) then I'll probably think about it more honestly, but in the meantime I am more than happy with what I already have.

If GPX Kids (or whatever it's called) isn't retardedly small and they manage to get GP32 apps running on that thing then I might sign up for that instead. I like GBA Micro-sized devices the best, it seems..

laugh.gif Same here, man. I really only want a system that claims that it can have a fullspeed snes emu, to actually have a fullspeed snes emu by a year.

@Lizard808uk, it sounds like your a cowboy or something.
