Mudi
I presume it'll end up on the archive at some point in the nearish future. I'm personally sticking with 2.1.1, but that's me.

100 units went out today with it on, so the dump should show up very soon.

craig, is this 3.0 the one that includes all the compressed stuff? in that case, cant you release a version without it? or is it just in a tarball it extracts on the nand? in that case i could remove it myself.

you could do it yourself and say that I did it wink.gif

If you like gmenu there is no reason to change, this is just more of a newbie firmware (and probably what 2.0 should have been).

It isn't just the firmware which has changed though, the whole gp2x package has.

Define "package". Are we talking the simple yet attractive cardboard box?

No, its a purple cheese greater with some greated GP2x in the middle and some Asda Blue Parrot orange juice.
Guyfawkes
as soon as its released on the korean homepage ill get it and upload to the archive, but it will probably be dumped (funny to hear that on gp2x smile.gif) beforehand.
Peter R
I remember someone had to Dump the Euro firmware on GP32.
Apple
So. This is just a "simple" 2.x firmware? I'm rather confused. I ordered one, and I expect it to be a 3.0 firmware...but I really wonder what it exactly is.

Anyone able to answer that?

You should get this FW because it takes twice as long to boot. With that extra time you could contemplate the meaning of life, ponder the wonders of the universe, smell a flower or kiss a girl. It is a way to put a little pause in the hectic life in the fast lane tongue.gif
The MASTER
People keep saying it takes twice as long to boot.

It doesn't. If I switch on my 2.1.1 GP2X and my 3.0.0 GP2X at exactly the same time, the difference is a little over 2 seconds.

Hardly the end of the world, and the pretty menus make it worthwhile (no more ikea orange!)

If I understand correctly, this new firmware add the support of an animated skin only, so to speed up the boot time of the firmware v3 can we just add an unanimated skin and select it ?
Goob
Arre there any changes to the video player, mp3 player etc in the new firmware?
Alex.
Question: will all new firmwares from now on be excessively newbie-friendly? I don't want to bloat the Nand with video tutorials and other preloaded content that is useless to me, but useful to others.

Ftp the gp2x and delete the trash? Or will it involve increase in the 'partition size' (not sure if the linux part is just hidden folders or actually an extra hidden partition)?

All those tutorials/manuals etc should come on a disk instead, I mean can you really use a GP2x without a PC? Obviously, there should be some kind of help txt built in to the GP2x - for when you're on the move, stuff like button mappings/ what the system settings do.. If they're really determined, then it could be put on a cheap sd card (preloaded with other stuff?), which would double as a good starting place for newbie storage.

Eh I don't care what version number a firmware is given, I just wait for the ones that offer decent/attractive features. And I don't think they're going to give up trying to improve the GP2x via firmwares.

Edit; some formatting

Well, you can always delete that stuff, if you want.
However, I find it very comfy to have games like FloboPuyo, Noiz2SA and SuperTux on the NAND smile.gif
