Wow, looks great. Can't wait for the release smile.gif

Looking forward to all the new benefits (shared libraries, improved bootup, cooler built in applications).
Alex.
That seems very fast and painless smile.gif

I can't wait for the first public release, this can only turn out great!

Sam, I did not realise Orkie had included you in the test release of DR1, pop onto IRC (#Open2x on FreeNode) and we will see what is wrong.

People, that video is slightly speeded up, or frames are dropped (well it is def. a little quicker then what we have at the moment). Boot time is better then the GPH firmware mind you, we just need to do more work on the upgrade process (I want to make it a lot more slick) and look into possible true dual booting with the GPH firmware.

Have a read of the news note for more info on the sort of things that are in this developer release (and no, only testers who are happy to work with us and ideally have serial/jTAG will get these pre-release builds so don't start asking, trust me, if your just a gamer you don't want it just 'yet' wink.gif anyway). Don’t worry, we want wider releases out as soon as we think it is stable enough.

wow that looks great, sends tingles through my brain ..i cant wait to see it finished...

If I recall Dave won't be using it as we take over the NAND and don't leave any user space wink.gif. Something he was very against us doing (it is using the USER NAND or creating ourselves a real headache with upgrades so that is just how it is wink.gif).

GP2XMB development seems to have come to a halt and we just don't have time in the project team (it's small enough and stretched enough as it is) to take on the maintenance and development of a menu. It also needed a number of features to be added to be really of use.

The decision was then taken to re-look at GMenu2X as it is actively developed and well liked, we would like to skin it and add a few specific features and maybe simplify the Open2x default view of it but Ryo seems very willing to work with us on that. My only personal issue with GMenu2X was that it is such a powerful menu that it can sometimes detract from the 'pick up and and use' mantra we have been working towards. That can all be dealt with mind you wink.gif.

Will all of the powerful features still be there for those of us that *want* all of the functionality? Or will it be "dumbed down" for all of us whether we like it or not? Or will there be a possible two versions, the full one and the simpled up one that could be installed?

Dave, the plan is not to remove features but maybe make the 'jump in' threshold a little lower. You can install another menu or a 'full' version or whatever else you may want to do.

Ok but will there ba a version that looks and works just like the one we use now on the GP2X? Can the current one actually be used as-is or does it need to be "ported" to the new OS? I know it is not just me that likes the current layout and functionality of Gmenu2X.

Dave,

When we are closer to some sort of wide release we will deal with that, right now I have no idea nor and desire to worry about it just yet wink.gif. There are far more pressing issues.

The current DR1 release at the moment contains an 'as is' from GMenu2x's SVN a few days ago.

I think GMenu2X is simple enough for every user. The standard features are working from scratch, Links can be insered automaticly by searching SD and the most detailed Setting Features of the Menu are not neccessary for normal use. Everyone who had worked on a PC should have no problem with Gmenu2X. It's nearly self-explaining user guided I would say.

Please people, do not turn this into a thread about menu choices for pity's sake.

Can I ask a question about open2x's toolkit?

I have the toolkit from CVS of november 2006, if I update it, will it create incompabilities with current GPH firmware? I mean, is it using different versions of the software and libraries? If I compile an app with the updated toolkit, can I run it with GPH 2.1.1 firmware?

Should I update?

Check the toolchain and libpack info on the wiki but in simple terms, no, if you continue to static link like you do now you should not have any additional issues.

No, I don't care, which menu Open2X use. I just wanted to say, that I find the Gmenu2X Easy enough for everyone to use. My opinion wasn't releated to Open2X. smile.gif

How's mplayer looking?

And does it support plugins like the real mplayer? I can't wait to play all kinds of files through mplayer. Tired of having to re-encode files just to watch them on my '2x.

I like the concept of Open2x, but I have reached the point where I have got my GP2x's menu just how I like it, and I don't really wanna change it.

Look, the liquido skin is just so beautiful, I'll be at pains to say goodbye sad.gif
