I would say : Yes and yes.

This is the most efficent option

I like the directional button on the NeoGeo Pocket Color the best. huh.gif

But when playing on the GP2X, using its joy is the only option.

Why is this thread in the GP32 stuff?

I like the joystick, although ive never tried the d-pad.

Isn't that one similar to the GP32, with the clicky microswitches?

Best controls are the Gameboy micro's d-pad, but I was quite fond of the GP32's d-stick (though those had a tendancy to stop working over time... mine never did.)

I vote for insane :-)

+1 for insane.

That is a low-use industrial design rated for 100,000 presses, and it isn't designed for the strain from the ludicrous cap that is on it.

Failure rates are average at about 3 months if you do any gaming on it or keep it in your pocket (The cap catches and busts the joystick as you pull it out of your pocket)

I am not saying either a Dpad or a stick is better (And face it, a D-pad is basically a flatter joystick when you analyze the geometry involved), but the GP2X stick is pure un-adulterated SHIT, give me some micro-switches any day of the week.

Not qualified to judge the sanity of anyone. I think most of the joystick complaints are software except for the cap being pushed down too far. Every time I'm ready to chuck it I replace the cap and it's like getting a new unit.

I know of no one that owns or have used the gp2x that says:

Man! That's some bad ass joystick action going on! Wow, give me some of that!!!!!!

Hmm, I think he was asking for an opinion, it is a figure of speech to say "am I nuts?"

Hmm, considering I have the .PDF of the commercially sourced joystick here and by the HARDWARE specs it is a piece of crap, I don't see how you can claim "software complaints"

Let me put it this way, the stated throw distance is HUGE (On the order of 1cm, WITHOUT a cap!!!), and the "landing pad" is close to 1mm for orthogonal directions, the MK2 did rotate that, but now the Diagonals are small, and it did nothing to increase the durability of the stick past 100,000 presses.

The cap "pushed down too far"??? OK, I believe I noticed (and posted) 2 years ago that the motherboard can be shifted by improper screw tightening sequence, resulting in inability to reach some directions. The cap needs to be as low as it can get to enable proper usage of the crap stick.

Explain away the craptastic metal pieces that wear out and allow the metal stick to pop free and quit registering any directions then?? Those have nothing to do with the cap being changed (because they are inside the joystick case), are you just really clueless or is this your actual belief?? (Rhetorical question)
Alex.
My MK2 stick is finally showing some slight signs of wear, Left occasionally fails to register. Sigh & sigh sad.gif

To be honest I actually like it. It fees like the point I bought it on, the retro get used to it ideal. I remember the up down left right keys on the spectrum that early games for it adhered to(5678). It was fun!

But I guess a lot of what retro means for most is a great PS or Nintendo controller, so the GP2X pad doesnt cut the mustard. Lets hope the Dpad on the new one will kill their anarchy, if it doesn't then we will suddenly realise it wasn't the pad they hated after all...

Indeed. I got mine used, so it may be broken in, but that d-pad is the best ever.
